Unfortunately, as much love as ATLA might get from studios attempting a live-action take, games based on the franchise are relatively few. But, it appears that this is all about to change soon.
According to Avatar News, at least four games based on the Avatar series are in the works right now, including a mobile game by Square Enix. The most interesting part here is that one of these games will be an RPG with action-adventure mechanics featuring characters from Avatar: The Last Airbender, with the other being an MMORPG. Unfortunately, the report doesn’t contain other specific details about either Avatar: The Last Airbender project, but it is confirmed that the unnamed studios are working closely with Paramount’s Avatar Studios. Paramount+ announced Avatar Studios in 2021 as a production company helmed by Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino. These two are responsible for giving birth to both Avatar: The Last Airbender and Avatar: The Legend of Korra. If the upcoming slate of Avatar games has the blessing of Avatar Studios, fans can rest easy knowing that the series creators had a hand in their creation. At the end of the day, all of this ATLA news is pure speculation. Avatar Studios hasn’t released an official statement about any game related to ATLA lately. If it’s any consolation, work on Netflix’s live-action Avatar show is progressing quite nicely. Production and filming of the Netflix series have been going on since November 16, 2021, which will last until May 2022. This would suggest that Netflix will release at least a trailer or even a release window for the Avatar: The Last Airbender TV series sometime later this year if not early 2023.
