At the surprise September Nintendo Direct showcase, Platinum decided to wow everyone with not just news that Bayonetta 3 is in development, but also how well it’s all coming together with an extensive gameplay trailer and a proper release date. Here’s everything you need to know about Bayonetta 3.
When is the Bayonetta 3 release date?
PlatinumGames has had a busy plate these past few years. After releasing Bayonetta 2 back in 2014, Platinum has worked on Transformers: Devastation, NieR: Automata, and Astral Chain, among others. The series’ creator, Hideki Kamiya, is also busy working on an untitled project simply known as Project G.G, which currently has no release date. Because of this, Platinum probably hasn’t had much time to drop details about Bayonetta 3. Thankfully, Platinum has spent the past couple of years working on Bayonetta 3, which, we must say, has been time well spent. The latest gameplay footage of Bayonetta 3 looks incredibly polished and should look great on the Nintendo Switch, especially the OLED version that’s due to come out anytime soon. With that said, Bayonetta 3 isn’t expected to come out until some time in 2022.
What is the gameplay of Bayonetta 3 like?
Thanks to the latest gameplay preview, we finally know what to expect from Bayonetta 3. To no one’s surprise, the latest Bayonetta title will see the titular witch wake up from yet another slumber to make use of her limber body and pull off insanely stylish combos. It appears that switch reflexes remain key to achieving high scores in Bayonetta 3, as it rightfully should. One of the more interesting parts of the latest trailer is the playable character. Many theorize that this isn’t the Bayonetta that has starred in the past two games. Instead, it’s Cereza (Bayonetta’s younger self from the past) from the original Bayonetta game., albeit much older. This would mean that audiences will play as Cereza in the alternate timeline that they placed her in back in Bayonetta. If this is true, this would explain a lot of things. For example, it would make sense to change Bayonetta’s voice actress for the third game if this was a different Bayonetta. Also, this would be the reason why Bayonetta appears to have a different set of powers, including the ability to summon a giant monster.
Is Bayonetta 3 going to launch on other platforms?
At launch? Probably not. After Nintendo took over publishing duties starting with Bayonetta 2, the stylish hack-and-slash series has not made its way to non-Nintendo platforms since. We don’t expect this to change anytime soon, especially with Bayonetta 2 selling so well when it was re-launched for the Nintendo Switch back in 2018.
When are we going to see more of Bayonetta 3 next?
Because of the success of Bayonetta 2 and Capcom’s Devil May Cry 5, the latter of which is also a series that Hideki Kamiya started, Bayonetta 3’s release was a no-brainer. Speaking of Devil May Cry 5, we’re hoping that Kamiya takes a page out of his former brainchild’s book and decides to feature multiple playable characters this time around. It would be amazing to be able to play as Jeanne and Rosa in the next game, or even Loki. Hopefully, we’ll receive more news about Bayonetta 3 soon. A 2022 launch window is far from specific, so Nintendo or PlatinumGames might announce an exact release date for Bayonetta 3 in early 2022.
