After seeing Diablo Immortal pull in hundreds of millions of dollars worth of transactions in just a few short months, including a player that spent $100,000 on the game only to find out he can’t play with anyone else anymore, Blizzard appears to be doing the same thing for Warcraft. According to an all-new job listing, Blizzard is currently working on an unannounced live-service Warcraft mobile game. Interestingly enough, the job listing comes shortly after news of the canceled mobile game between NetEase and Blizzard broke out. Had it pushed through, we’d have seen a mobile Warcraft game come out later this year. But, since this isn’t the case, Blizzard might want to continue the development of the canceled game to come out with something that it can use to leverage the enduring popularity of the Warcraft IP. Keep in mind that World of Warcraft is one of the oldest and most profitable IPs in gaming. With World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic scheduled to come out in September followed by World of Warcraft: Dragonflight in December, Warcraft is here to stay. We’re well aware that a Warcraft mobile game like Diablo Immortal isn’t something that fans want - we swear that we hear people chanting “we want Warcraft 4” right now. However, we can say the same thing about the mobile Diablo game and look at how that all turned out. At the end of the day, we can expect Blizzard to go where the money is. We’re just hoping that Blizzard has learned its lessons from Diablo Immortal. We’d love to have a free-to-play mobile Warcraft game that won’t lock the endgame experience behind a massive paywall.
