This year, Blizzard decided to hold it as an online event, similar to the 2020 New York Comic Con. The 2 day BlizzConline gaming event will present a fresh look at new planned and scheduled content for the most popular titles in the Blizzard stable. Expected to be highlighted at the different channels featured in BlizzCon 2021 are Overwatch 2, Diablo 4, Diablo Immortal, and Hearthstone. There have been details gradually released over the past few monthsaboutf what this year’s BlizzConline will include for these aforementioned games. For Overwatch 2, new gameplay modes like Hero Story missions, characters, and cosmetics are expected, as well as the official release date. Diablo 4 has had more details already revealed, but the release date is also expected for BlizzCon 2021. Finally, the controversial mobile game, Diablo Immortal is expected to have more details revealed in the event, including gameplay elements and system requirements. There are some rumors regarding a Diablo 2 remaster. Reportedly, the remaster will be handled by Blizzard’s Team 1 (the same team that worked on Warcraft 3: Reforged). But the press kit leak did not confirm this.

World of Warcraft Chains of Domination

The first major revelation of the Blizzcon 2021 leak is the first massive patch for the Shadowlands expansion for the mainline World of Warcraft game. As quoted in the Blizzcon Press Kit for Patch 9.1: The massive content update for the long-running MMO will further explore Korthia, the City of Secrets. Quests in the storyline will involve assisting the four Covenants in their bid to fight back against The Jailer in his own home turf. This will also include a new dungeon, Tazavesh, the Veiled Market.  In this latter Mythic dungeon, players will be tasked to gather powerful new artifacts in a heist-style quest chain. Opposing them will be eight bosses called the Brokers running the underworld bazaar. Backed by the renewed might of the four Covenants, the champions of the Horde and the Alliance will take the fight for the Shadowlands to the seat of the Jailer’s power. But the Banished One has a terrible new champion in his service – a cruel instrument of despair conscripted by Sylvanas Windrunner, capable of instilling dread into the hearts of Azeroth’s heroes like no creature of the Shadowlands. Another major addition is the Raid on the Sanctum of Domination. Here, heroes are going to gather for a 10-boss raid, culminating in battles with the Eye of the Jailer, the Banshee Queen, and the Tarragrue. The Shadowlands Raid dungeon will reward the players with Covenant themed cosmetics. Other new additions are Shadowlands PVP Season 2, more Soulbinds and Conduit mechanics. But perhaps the most significant changes to the Shadowlands expansion are the hints that Anduin will be turning to the dark side becoming a Death Knight and the addition of flying mounts for the Shadowlands areas!

World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Classic

The second important revelation from the BlizzCon 2021 press kit release is the confirmation of giving the World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade the Classic treatment. Due to the success and positive reception of the vanilla World of Warcraft Classic, Blizzard surveyed its player population. The general response has been that there is a significant part of the population that want to move forward to the Burning Crusade expansion, but also that there are those who want to stay in the current WoW Classic status quo. Per the BlizzCon 2021 press kit: Originally released in 2007, the Burning Crusade was the first major expansion to World of Warcraft after 2004. Just like in the original expansion’s release, significant additions were made. The Outland area expanded the locations to be explored, including the swamps of Zangarmarsh and the Burning Legion’s Black Temple. In 2021, Blizzard Entertainment’s recreation of the first World of Warcraft expansion will give players from around the world a chance to return to Outland as it once was to relive an era of timeless adventure – or experience what awaits beyond the Dark Portal for the first time. Blood Elves and Draenei are added to the playable races for the Horde and Alliance, respectively. The Arena PVP system, jewelcrafting gear, and the first flying mounts in the classic era. Although the original release of the Burning Crusade required a purchase separate from the World of Warcraft subscription, this will not be the case for the Classic version. Anyone who subscribes to World of Warcraft will be able to play World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Classic servers. Furthermore, players who already have a vanilla World of Warcraft character will have the option of progressing to Burning Crusade Classic or continue their vanilla adventuring by transferring to new Classic servers.
