Netflix showed off new Extraction 2 footage at the Netflix TUDUM Global Fan Event in the past week. The event was streamed on social media and the Netflix website. In Extraction 2, Chris Hemsworth reprises the role of Tyler Rake, a black-market mercenary. During the previous film, his character was last seen gravely injured and his fate was left unknown at the end of the film. “There’s a moment when you say to yourself it can’t be done, but instead of backing down, you push yourself forward into the unknown,” says Hemsworth at the start of the video. He provides a voice-over for the featurette with the film’s director, Sam Hargrave, providing a commentary on the film. The featurette shows off some intense action sequences during filming. The prison riot scene, in particular, has been teased in by Hemsworth in an Instagram post with the caption “Just another day on Extraction 2!!” Sam Hargrave says to the camera “With a title of ‘2’ behind your name, you need to bring twice the action.” He highlights that the sequel brings more explosive stunts and action sequences. Hargrave also looks to outdo the one-shot set-piece of the original with a much bigger scene involving landing a helicopter onto a moving train. The sequel brings plenty of hardware into the movie compared to the original with trains, helicopters, and a prison. While we are getting some extensive behind-the-scenes look at the filming of Extraction 2, we have yet to know more details about the film. We have zero idea about the plot right now and who else is involved aside from Hemsworth and Golshifteh Farahani, who reprises her role as the mercenary Nik Khan. Sam Hargrave returns to direct the sequel and knows a thing or two about action scenes. Hargrave worked with the Russo brothers in several of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Films as a stunt coordinator. He also worked on the Hunger Games series, The Accountant, Suicide Squad, and Deadpool 2. The Russo brothers are reportedly interested in building a universe around Tyler Rake and the Extraction film. There were reports that they were also working on the origin story of Randeep Hooda’s character Saju. Netflix has previously announced that Extraction 2 will premiere in 2023.
