The infamously reclusive A Song of Ice and Fire author penned the entire lore of Elden Ring, FromSoftware’s latest title and published by Bandai Namco. Perhaps it should no surprise, then, that it felt like a match made in heaven as Hidetaka Miyazaki is also known for his outlandish and unconventional ideas. But, as it turns out, one other famous author wanted to work with Bandai Namco on Elden Ring, and the two might be working together on a future project. According to Brandon Sanderson, he received an Elden Ring box merchandise set from Bandai Namco that included a replica sword and a personal letter from the Elden Ring publisher saying that it would like to work with Sanderson in the future. Sanderson’s response is definitely going to make his fans happy, albeit anyone following Sanderson knows that he is pissed it took Bandai such a long time to come calling. Back in January, the Mistborn and The Stormlight Archive author revealed that he’s still salty that FromSoftwork chose “someone who spends his days blogging about the NFL rather than the person who has played their games since King’s Field and has listed their games as among his top ten consistently over time.” The good news is that Sanderson does have an idea in the back of his head, so he’ll try and pitch Bandai Namco to see what they think. Although Sanderson’s potential collaboration with Bandai Namco is still in its early stages, fans can’t help but imagine what a fantasy series from a well-known fantasy writer who is also a gamer will look like. Who knows? Sanderson’s involvement might give FromSoftware a reason to come back and work on a second Elden Ring game if not a spin-off set in the same universe. Either way, we know that Sanderson is a huge Soulsborne fan, so if he ever gets a chance to write for Bandai Namco, we can expect something along the lines of the popular FromSoftware-exclusive sub-genre. Speaking of Elden Ring, FromSoftware and Bandai recently issued a press release hinting at more upcoming Elden Ring projects. Also, as for George R.R. Martin, he’s now presumably back to writing Winds of Winter while also overseeing House of the Dragon.
