Fantasian is the newest project from Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of the Final Fantasy series and founder of Mistwalker. The game was first teased during the Apple Arcade announcement event in March 2019. Fantasian is a Japanese RPG that promises several new features for the genre, from the creation of its environments to the combat system. The protagonist is Leo, who wakes up after a huge explosion only to find himself lost in an unknown place, and with only one memory from the past. “As players set out on a journey to reclaim Leo’s memories, they will unravel the mysteries of the bizarre mechanical infection slowly engulfing all that is known to mankind,” says the game’s App Store page. The epic tale will be told on a novel approach. Throughout the game, players will find and collect various memories which will tell the game’s story. In addition to the reveal trailer, Mistwalker delivered us another video highlighting some of the core features and mechanics of the new game. The title stands out for its three-dimensional environments, which are actually dioramas created by veterans of the Japanese visual effects industry, with experience in projects such as the Godzilla, Attack on Titan, and Ultraman movies. These dioramas have been transposed into the game to then receive the game’s 3D characters. Not only that, but the video also shows a new game mechanic: instead of simply facing enemies in random encounters, players can trap them in a dimension known as “Dimengion” to explore the environments more freely - and potentially face all the creatures at once later on. You should note the skills in the game have a targeting mechanic and if well-aligned, can hit multiple enemies at once. On top of all that, the game also features another Final Fantasy veteran: the legendary composer Nobuo Uematsu, who shared his marvelous talent to further enhance our experience with a magical soundtrack. Fantasian is to be released in 2021 and so far no other platform besides Apple Arcade has been mentioned.
