In an interview with SiriusXM, Jackman revealed he wanted decided to return as Wolverine since Marvel was moving around timelines. This new device that the MCU introduced would not be messing with the timeline in which Logan died in the year 2029. “It’s all because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines,” Jackman shared with SiriusXM. “Now we can go back because, you know, it’s science. So, I don’t have to screw with the ‘Logan’ timeline, which was important to me. And I think probably to the fans too.” Reynolds previously hinted that the timelines for Deadpool 3 and Logan were different. The actor also assured fans that he will not be touching Logan’s timeline. “‘Logan’ takes place in 2029,” Reynolds states. “Totally separate thing. Logan died in ‘Logan.’ Not touching that.”

The implications of time travel in Deadpool 3

While this statement reveals some interesting details about the upcoming Deadpool 3, it still does not spoil anything about the new movie. Much of Jackman’s statement is subject to different interpretations. The mention of moving timelines may mean that Logan happens much later or Wade Wilson traveled back in time or to a different multiverse to meet a new version of Wolverine. We may also have two branching timelines where Logan is alive in one and deceased in the other. It could also open the possibility of other actors playing the part of Logan down the line. How Marvel goes about the time-traveling bit is something we will know about when the movie arrives. What we know for sure is that Deadpool went on a time-traveling spree. He saved his wife, assassinated Ryan Reynolds before he could take on the role of Green Lantern, and managed to recruit Logan to the upcoming movie. There are rumors that Owen Wilson’s Mobius M. Mobius and Miss Minutes from the Time Variance Authority will also be appearing in the film. The rumor ties in with Jackman’s revelation that time travel is part of the third movie. A time-skipping Deadpool could wreak havoc on the Sacred Timeline thus prompting a response from the TVA. Kang the Conqueror aka “He Who Remains” is part of the TVA and is the next big bad villain of the MCU. His time-traveling antics could rope in Deadpool to the Multiverse Saga and Kang the Conqueror. Hopefully, this connection will pave the way for the inclusion of Deadpool and perhaps Wolverine in the upcoming Avengers movies.
