Entertainment brand Empire Magazine is behind these revelations and it comes as part of its coverage for the fifth and final installment of the Indiana Jones franchise. Since it was announced there would be another Indiana Jones movie, information about the film has been few and far between, all we essentially knew was about the film’s 1960 setting as well as the fact that Jones will be going against Nazis. However, we now know a lot more. The magazine showcased Mads Mikkelsen’s character and the film’s antagonist, Voller, a former Nazi. According to Empire, Voller is based on a real person Wernher von Braun, who went on to join NASA as an engineer. The released images show Voller in round glasses, a jacket, and a fedora, which evokes memories of the first villain in the Indiana Jones franchise Major Arnold Toht. When describing Voller, Mikkelsen stated, “He’s a man who would like to correct some of the mistakes of the past. There is something that could make the world a much better place to live in. He would love to get his hands on it. Indiana Jones wants to get his hands on it as well. And so, we have a story.” Movie villains hardly ever go it alone and Voller is no different. In Indiana Jones 5, he will have Klaber’s help. The character was also featured in the release images and it is played by Boyd Holbrook who many will recognize from his role as Corinthian in the recent Netflix series The Sandman. When asked about his character, Holbrook stated, “I’m a lapdog to Mads, and a crazy one at that.” Empire Magazine also interviewed one of the film’s screenwriters Jez Butterworth and he provided something of a plot summary for the film. He stated that the film will take place in 1969, when the race for who will first arrive in space was at its hottest between the Soviet Union and the United States. Given that many of the scientists in the space programs have Nazi backgrounds, Jones set out to identify their ulterior motives. Butterworth also discussed Jones’s motivation which gives insight into how the film will unfold. The screenwriter stated, “The simple fact is that the moon-landing program was run by a bunch of ex-Nazis. How ‘ex’ they are is the question. And it gets up Indy’s nose… It’s not just that the model of what a hero is has completely changed. It’s not just that they’re looking for something where there’s nothing up there – it’s like Reno without the gambling, or whatever his line is. But the people that are behind it are, you know, his sworn enemies.” The Indiana Jones franchise was created by George Lucas. The first installment, which was titled Raiders of the Lost Ark, premiered in 1981. It follows Jones as he attempts to locate the biblical Ark of the Covenant which was stolen by Nazi Germans. Apart from Jones, Voller, and Holbrook, Indiana Jones 5 will feature Jones’ ally from Raiders of the Lost Ark, Sallah, who is played by John Rhys-Davies. It will also feature Jones’s goddaughter Helena who is portrayed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Other confirmed cast members are Thomas Kretcschmann, Shaunette Renee Wilson, Olivia Richters Toby Jomes, and Antonio Banderas. However, their roles in the film remain undisclosed. Ford is one of the leading actors in Hollywood and a cultural icon. Indiana Jones is one of his most recognizable roles with Han Solo from Star Wars another one. While promoting the film at the D23 Expo, Ford described the franchise as being “about mystery and adventure, but they’re also about heart. We have a really human story to tell, as well as a movie that will kick your ass.” The actor is also very popular for his roles in the Blade Runner films, Ender’s Game, and Cowboy and Aliens, among others. By the way, while fans impatiently await the film’s release, recent rumors have surfaced that early test screening results of the film were abysmal. Fans will hope these rumors prove false when the film is eventually released as it will mean great disappointment otherwise. Also, Harrison Ford has been billed to play General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in the Marvel Cinematic Universe following William Hurt’s death. The iconic actor will also star opposite Helen Mirren in the Yellowstone prequel titled 1923 with the series’ first trailer dropping recently. Indiana Jones 5, which remains untitled, will debut in cinemas on June 30, 2023.
