The actor-musician made this revelation during an interview with Variety’s Marc Malkin on the Just for Variety podcast. During the interview, Malkin asked if there was a role Jonas auditioned for without getting that “destroyed” him. Jonas responded in the affirmative. He then went on to talk about his experience auditioning for The Amazing Spider-Man alongside Josh Hutcherson and Andrew Garfield. In his words, “I can name probably a couple. In the moment, you’re destroyed or you’re defeated. But you realize this person was brilliant. I remember years ago I was up for Spider-Man and I was so, so excited and it was the year Andrew Garfield got it. Obviously, he was the right one. But I remember that was a big thing at the time, going back for callbacks and the director used to be a music video director. So, I was like, “I got an in here.” But you know what? I love the process of auditioning and putting yourself out there and having to prove yourself.”
♬ Spiderman - calin_moraru While he has a couple of acting credits under his belt, Jonas’s primary claim to fame is as a member of the pop rock band Jonas Brothers, alongside his brothers Kevin and Nick. The band released its debut studio album It’s About Time in 2006. While the album flopped, the band’s next project, a self-titled album in 2007, catapulted them to stardom. The group would go on to release three more albums before disbanding due to creative differences. The most recent of their projects is 2019’s Happiness Begins, which they released after reuniting following a 6-year break. Jonas has since created a new band DNCE with him as the lead vocalist. He is the recipient of several awards, alongside his brothers, including the American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, Global Awards, and iHeart Radio Music Awards. Nevertheless, Jonas is also a stellar actor with credits in Zoolander 2 and Hotel Transylvania 3. However, his most recognizable acting role is in the Disney Channel musical television film Camp Rock and its sequel Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. He has also starred in multiple series based on his life and that of his brothers, including Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream and Jonas. Jonas’ latest film, Devotion, is a J. D. Dillard-directed picture that is based on real events. The pop star starred alongside Jonathan Majors and Glen Powell to deliver “a true story about the first African-American naval air force pilot and his band of brothers.” While discussing the film, the 33-year-old actor made a few interesting comments about his wife Sophie Turner, and her role in his getting the part. He noted that the Game of Thrones star was pivotal to his audition as she helped to tape the audition video. He also noted that she was his toughest critic as she pushed him to be at his best. Lastly, he appreciated her for being a phenomenal actress and a great acting coach as she helped to improve his performance. The Amazing Spider-Man is a duo of films based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. The films are the fourth and fifth theatrical releases of the Spider-Man franchise and a reboot of the Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man trilogy that starred Tobey Maguire. The first film achieved critical and commercial success with a global box office gross north of $750 million. The second film, on the other hand, received mixed reviews and grossed almost $710 million. However, this was seen as disappointing and the series was discontinued as a result. The Amazing Spider-Man followed Peter Parker, a high school student who gets bit by a genetically altered spider to gain spider-like powers, as he tries to develop his newfound abilities, navigate his relationship with high school sweetheart Gwen Stacy, and protect New York City from the many evils that threaten its existence. Apart from Garfield, who starred as the titular character, the films starred Emma Stone, Dennis Leary, and Sally Field as Gwen Stacy, George Stacy, and May Parker respectively. The first installment also starred Rhys Ifans, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen, and Chris Zylka as Dr. Curt Connors/Lizard, Rajit Ratha, Ben Parker, and Flash Thompson. While the second film featured Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti, and Felicity Jones as Max Dillon/Electro, Harry Osborn/Green Goblin, Donald Menken, Aleksei Sytsevich/Rhino, and Felicia Hardy respectively. Marc Webb directed both installments while Avi Arad, Laura Ziskin, and Matt Tolmach served as producers for the first film. Arad and Tolmach also reprised their role as producers for the second film. In other news, Lucasfilm cancelled two Star Wars project that Devotion director J. D. Dillard was supposed to helm. Also, Marvel’s new Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special has introduced the Transformers to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Finally, Marvel fans will be glad to know that the studio has found a new director for its planned reboot of Blade. Devotion is currently showing in cinemas around the world.
