In a People magazine interview, Cena was very open-minded when asked about a potential Black Adam cameo. In particular, Cena mentioned that anything can happen in the DCEU and shared how he’d love to get a chance to work with Johnson outside of the WWE. Unfortunately, Cena clarified that he doesn’t have any creative control over Peacemaker, so he can’t exactly ask James Gunn or Warner Bros executives to bring in Johnson even if it’s only for a brief cameo. Then again, if Cena is open to it and we assume that Johnson is too, why shouldn’t it happen? Peacemaker was easily one of the most talked-about shows on any streaming platform throughout the first two months of this year. The ending, in particular, blew up on social media after the Justice League made their first on-screen appearance together for the first time in a while. Naturally, fans have no longer been afraid to get wild with all their theories for season 2 of Peacemaker after what the finale gave them. One particular “insider” even went as far as to suggest that Bane will debut in Peacemaker’s next season, which Gunn quickly shot down on Twitter. Ultimately, Johnson’s future appearance in Peacemaker all depends on two things: if all parties like it, including Gunn and the folks over at WarnerMedia, and if Black Adam does not bomb at the global box office. After lobbying for years to get a live-action Black Adam movie made, Johnson finally got his wish as he’s set to make his debut as the ruler of Kahndaq on July 29. Although Johnson is a guaranteed box office draw, things aren’t always guaranteed and the ever-present threat of the COVID-19 pandemic could rear its ugly head once again, sending the film industry to another tailspin. Case in point, Gunn’s The Suicide Squad was such a critical darling only to fail to recoup its production budget at the global box office. If it’s any consolation, now that Gunn knows Cena is open to working together with The Rock in the future in the DCEU, we wouldn’t rule out the possibility that he’ll find a way to make it happen. Speaking of making Peacemaker Season 2 happen, don’t expect Gunn to have the time to work on Peacemaker again anytime soon. Gunn will be hard at work with The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for the foreseeable future.
