Nintendo just confirmed that the next Kirby game is going to be released on March 25. In addition to this, Nintendo also shared a trailer showcasing more of Kirby’s abilities in Kirby and the Forgotten Land as well as some co-op gameplay. Kirby and the Forgotten Land was leaked just hours before its official announcement at the Nintendo Direct last September 2021. The surprise title is a more traditional platforming game with a big twist. Unlike previous outings, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a full 3D game where players can thoroughly explore a fully detailed city. Because of this massive change, fans are already comparing Kirby and the Forgotten Land to Mario Odyssey, which is one of the best games available on the Switch. Of course, whether or not Kirby and the Forgotten Land will live up to such expectations remains to be seen. But, of the actual gameplay footage we’ve seen so far, Kirby is looking as spry as ever for his debut 3D outing. In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, the lovable and huggable pink blob does everything that he’s expected to, including floating in the air and sucking in anyone that gets in his way. Of course, as is this is a Kirby game, you don’t always need to suck and launch enemies - some you’d want to absorb to gain their abilities. What is interesting here is that the announcement trailer for Kirby and the Forgotten Land featured a rather unique and bleak setting. Instead of the usually bright and colorful worlds, Kirby and the Forgotten Land might be set in a ruined civilization where nature has taken over. The locales seen in the trailers so far include everything from abandoned malls to buildings with Kirby equally just as confused as fans about why he’s there. Thankfully, fans don’t have to wait too long to find out if Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a worthy 3D debut for the long-running Nintendo franchise.
