Are we going to see Hogwarts Legacy at The Game Awards 2021?
According to Millie Amand, the developers are currently preparing some form of “asset” for Hogwarts Legacy and are just waiting on Warner Bros. Interactive to give them the green light. Amand did not clarify what kind of “asset” this is, but it could be a new trailer to help give fans a better look at the game. However, it is understandable that Warner Bros. Interactive is hesitant to release new Hogwarts Legacy content. Earlier this year, we learned that Avalanche Software might have added transgender options in Hogwarts Legacy’s character creator. It was also right around the same time that eagle-eyed observers noticed that the game’s website explicitly claims that “J.K. Rowling is not directly involved in the creation of the game” and that the game’s original story is not “from J.K. Rowling”. J.K. Rowling has been under heavy scrutiny these past few years for what many took as transphobic statements on Twitter that caused outrage among the LGBTQ+ community and the general public. Given the possibility that audiences might perceive anything Harry Potter-related negatively, it makes sense that Warner Bros. Interactive is hesitant to release new Hogwarts Legacy footage. This means that fans probably shouldn’t expect the “asset” to drop at The Game Awards 2021 on December 9, 2021. If it’s any consolation, a possible release date for a new Hogwarts Legacy trailer might come soon. The “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts” is set to air on HBO Max on January 1, 2022. The special episode is a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the movie adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The reunion special will reportedly be similar to the Friends reunion earlier this year and will see the original trio of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Ruper Grint, alongside Tom Felton, and possibly more, make an appearance. If Warner Bros. Interactive wants to keep negativity away from a potential Hogwarts Legacy release date reveal, it can drop the “asset” in the days leading up to the HBO Max special’s premiere.
