According to eXputer, Marvel’s Avengers is off to the “sunset” next year as Crystal Dynamics will have no more content planned for 2024 and the game’s lead designer, Brian Waggoner, will leave by then. The report explains that Crystal Dynamics’ support for Marvel’s Avengers was only going to last for only 3-5 years. It’s unclear if this has something to do with a new management taking over or if this is just because the deal with Marvel Studios has expired. Marvel’s Avengers was the first modern AAA project featuring titular heroes. It wasn’t afraid to ride the popularity of its Marvel Cinematic Universe counterpart ahead of its launch. But, the goodwill fostered by the MCU post-Endgame wasn’t enough to save it. The issue-filled launch, confusing game design, and forced live-service mechanic, among others, all combined to make it a rather mediocre outing. It didn’t help that Crystal Dynamics appeared to have little motivation to support the game with post-launch content outside of the presumed existing agreement either. Considering that very few players continued enjoying Marvel’s Avengers a year after it was launched, this development isn’t surprising if it’s true. But, if it’s any consolation, there’s still content planned for next year. So, hopefully, Marvel’s Avengers goes out with a bang with a suite of heroes added to the game, including She-Hulk and more. Also, don’t worry if you’re one of the few who still play Marvel’s Avengers. Even if this means Crystal Dynamics will stop supporting the game, the servers will likely remain active. It’d be similar to what Rockstar Games did with Red Dead Online after putting the game to pasture. Crystal Dynamics is in the middle of several new projects, including remakes and reboots of older properties. Chief among them is a new Tomb Raider game, which many believe will be a remake of the original. In addition to this, Crystal Dynamics is helping out The Initiative on the Perfect Dark reboot. Finally, Crystal Dynamics is said to be working on new remakes that might include Legacy of Kain.
