The gameplay trailer is nine minutes long. It depicts different parts of Seoul with a soldier shooting his way through numerous enemy combatants. The game will require players to either work together or compete in its open-world environment that spans over 30 kilometers of land area. Project LLL is a massively multiplayer online shooter video game. It will be played in the third person and, according to the game’s project lead, Jaehyun Bae, falls under the science fiction category and can also be classified as a sub-genre of alternative fiction. He stated, “It takes place in a world that started with the idea that the history we know progressed differently due to a particular event in the past. In [LLL], a devastated Seoul, the 10th century Byzantine Empire, and the 23rd century are all blended together in the same lore.” Project LLL was developed with motion capture to ensure the movements evoke a feeling of live action. Bae also stated that they took every possible step to ensure they capture a satisfactory shooting experience. They also made several trips to field locations in Seoul to develop a detailed depiction of the city. For a company whose portfolio includes titles like Guild Wars 2, City of Heroes, and the Lineage game series, Project LLL is a diversion from the usual titles that NCSoft publishes. However, it is not a surprise given that the company announced earlier in the year that it will be developing games across different genres due to a desire to diversify its portfolio. When asked about the reactions he expects to get to the game’s unveiling, Bae responded that even though there will be many people who are surprised and who doubt NCSoft’s ability to deliver a shooting game, they wanted to develop a game that utilizes elements and play styles from their previous titles. In his words, “We want to create a new market that is exclusive to NC with a new IP that incorporates the keywords ‘Shooter’, ‘MMO’, and ‘Open World.’” Bae stated that he personally referenced Dune and Foundation for the game. However, he developed the title’s story with themes of human justice, technology, and alternate history in a way that is reminiscent of Philip K. Dick novels like Blade Runner, Total Recall, and The Man in the High Castle. In other news, Activision Blizzard released the trailer to Warzone 2, which is scheduled to drop tomorrow November 16. Also, in a recent report, Sony was rumoured to be teaming up with NCSoft to develop an MMORPG set in its popular Horizon universe. Further, the director of Sony’s live-action of Ghost of Tsushima has provided an update on the film, which is in currently in development. Project LLL is slated for release on consoles and PC sometime in 2024. At the moment, there is no information as to the exact consoles the game will be available on. However, fans of MMO shooter games who are looking for something new, which Project LLL promises, will be hoping it is available on as many consoles as possible, including last-gen consoles.
