At CES 2022, Sony confirmed that it’s reviving the Twisted Metal series, but it’s not going to be in the same form.
What can we expect from the Twisted Metal series?
Alongside the announcement of the PSVR 2, Sony also dropped news about the upcoming Twisted Metal TV series. Unfortunately, Sony did not reveal anything else outside of its existence. Also, series fans have known for a while that this was happening. The reports of a Twisted Metal TV series have existed since 2019. Of course, it’s good that Sony finally acknowledged the return of the classic PlayStation franchise even if it’s in TV form and not as a video game. According to several reports, leaks, and speculation that we have gathered over the years, Sony has hired Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Vernick to take charge of the live-action comedy series. In addition, the MCU’s Anthony Mackie will play the lead character with Sweet Tooth expected to appear as well.
What’s next for Twisted Metal?
After several sequels and spin-offs throughout the 90s and 2000s, Sony eventually stopped making Twisted Metal games, much to the dismay of fans. The latest attempt to reboot the franchise was back in 2012. However, last year, VGC reported that Sony had given the developers of Destruction AllStars the green light to work on a new Twisted Metal game. Then, a few months later in December, eagle-eyed fans found more proof of Lucid Games’ next project. At the end of the day, Sony nor Lucid Games has confirmed all these rumors. Outside of Sony’s announcement at CES 2022, you should take everything that you just read with a grain of salt. The good news here is that Sony should reveal more about the Anthony Mackie-led show soon. Hopefully, we’ll hear more about the unannounced Twisted Metal game by then.
