Is it snowing out there? Because it looks like Christmas has arrived earlier this year. Accompanying FFVIIR, we have Maquette for PS5, Farpoint which will require PlayStation VR, and Remnant from the Ashes, which was offered for free on the Epic Store in August 2020. It’s important to note that Final Fantasy VII Remake from Plus won’t include the free PS5 upgrade announced on the State of Play, but will still be playable on PS5. It’s worth remembering that the PlayStation At Home initiative, which simply throws free games in our faces, continues. We’ll have Ratchet and Clank (2016) for free on March 1st, so grab the game and don’t worry about dropping it, because you don’t need a PS Plus subscription to keep it forever. With no further ado, let’s take a closer look at this wonderful lineup.

Final Fantasy VII Remake

Final Fantasy VII paved the way for JRPGs to shine as brightly as the sun in Western lands. The change from traditional 2D to 3D was risky but widely accepted. Now, reimagined for the new generation and taking full advantage of today’s hardware’s potential, the game is back more leveled-up than ever. Play as Cloud Strife, former elite soldier gone mercenary. On our first mission aiding eco-terrorists to give the planet a breather, we meet some of the stellar cast that will traverse together in Midgard. A breathtaking epic, our heroes go from fighting a giant electric corporation to a silver-manned gorgeous megalomaniac with mother issues. With a few plot changes from the original game, Final Fantasy VII Remake shows that it is not afraid to dare. The game promises to deliver content from the entire Final Fantasy VII universe, discreetly confirmed by the appearance of Weiss in the trailer for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, an antagonist from Dirge of Cerberus.

Remnant: From the Ashes | PS4

Remnant: From the Ashes is a third-person action survival shooter from Gunfire Games, studio of Darksiders 3. The game offers cooperative gameplay for up to four players and is set in a post-apocalyptic Earth teeming with monsters and other creatures and as one of the last remnants of humanity, it’s your humble mission to retake the world. Easy-peasy. Although called “Souls-like” by some, Remnant doesn’t feature the notorious gruesome difficulty or the exact same features of the genre. Remnant innovates in a refreshing way, such as the addition of third-person shooting and the dynamically generated stages, something familiar from roguelikes. Scour the world for supplies to improve your equipment and increase your survival odds.

Farpoint | PS VR

In Fairpoint, you are the pilot of a spaceship that is going to pick up two scientists in space and bring them back to Earth. But when it is time to leave the space station, something goes wrong and everyone ends up on an unknown planet. As lost as a Pokémon in the Digimon world, you have to look for the survivors, reunite the group, and try to escape this place that is infested with scary alien spiders. Really? Giant spiders on VR? Hard pass. But if you insist on having waking nightmares, you can enjoy a solo or online co-op adventurer. To fully enjoy the shooter, you better pair it with the amazing VR Aim tracking system making it one of the best out there.

Maquette | PS5

Did you know ‘maquette’ is the french word for ‘diorama’? And that’s the central feature of this first-person puzzle game. Maquette is set in a world where every object, plant, and building is both huge and small at the same time. Go to the center of the map to feel like a giant amidst the buildings, or move away from the middle and get smaller and smaller, until you reach the point where cracks become chasms. Whenever a giant cube is blocking your way in the regular size world, go back to the diorama to play God on the third day and change the position of the cube, clearing your path. If a puzzle is burning your brains, you can use the PS5’s Game Help feature to search for hints.
