The most recent chapter in the faux feud between Reynolds and Jackman started when the latter posted a video appealing to the Academy not to include the former’s musical number from the movie Spirited in the Best Song category. Reynolds posted a reaction video where he chose to take the high road and praised Jackman’s performance in The Son, and asks the Academy to consider giving the actor an award. The Deadpool actor “accidentally” knocks down the mobile phone while ending the video and is overheard dissing the X-Men star by referring to him as Chappie. Reynolds captioned the tweet “For Hugh-r consideration.”

— Hugh Jackman (@RealHughJackman) January 11, 2023 “Last week, Hugh Jackman lovingly asked the Academy to not vote for our song ‘Good Afternoon’ in the Best Song category and, well, I’m not going to stoop to that level,” Reynolds said. “I’m going to rise to the occasion and I’m going to rise above it all.” Reynolds states that he “loved” Jackman’s performance as Peter Miller in The Son. Reynolds assures viewers that there is “zero sarcasm here, no wink-wink nudge-nudge.” He called the performance “one of the best” in Jackman’s “very impressive career. " “I humbly submit Hugh for your consideration,” the actor supposedly ends his video. He then accidentally drops his phone instead of ending the video. While the screen goes black, Reynolds can be heard saying, “Wolverine and Deadpool, who’s he kidding?” He is referring to the previous video where the Logan actor calls the upcoming Deadpool 3 movie as Wolverine and Deadpool. “Not on your life, Chappie,” Reynolds adds, throwing shade at Jackman’s 2015 film. Chappie, directed by Neill Blomkamp, received negative reviews and did not do so well at the box office. Reynolds may have also made fun of Jackman sporting a weird haircut in the film. Deadpool 3 doesn’t have an official title yet and “Wolverine and Deadpool” could be its working title. Although if Reynolds is feeling petty, he might prefer “Deadpool and Wolverine” since it’s his movie after all. All kidding aside, Deadpool 3 has serious implications for the current Multiverse Saga with the inclusion of the Time Variance Authority in the upcoming film. Wolverine’s arrival may also herald the arrival of the X-Men in the MCU.  Fans are undeniably excited to have the duo appear in the MCU together. Reynolds has teased the collaboration since the post-credits of Deadpool 2 where Wade Wilson travels back in time to tell Logan, “Eventually you are going to hang up the claws and it is going to make a lot of people sad but one day your old pal Wade is going to ask you to get back in the saddle again. And when he does, say yes.” Wade Wilson did eventually ask Logan to return in the first trailer for Deadpool 3. “Hey Hugh, do you want to play Wolverine one more time?” Reynolds asks. “Yeah, sure Ryan,” Jackman nonchalantly replies.  This hilarious tiff between Reynolds and Jackman will culminate in what’s likely going to be the MCU’s first R-rated big-screen outing on November 8, 2024.
