Lisette Alexís Gutiérrez shared the exciting news on her personal Instagram account with two images and a video taken while filming on the Disney+ series was ongoing. Alexís’ video doesn’t give away much outside of confirming her character, Jess Morales, and the fact that the filming on the series has started. But, it’s all good news, all things considered. According to details released last month, Disney+’s National Treasure will feature Jess and a ragtag bunch of treasure hunters on the hunt for a long-lost Pan-American treasure. However, they’re not alone in the quest, as they’ll soon find out that a billionaire treasure hunter played by Catherine Zeta-Jones is looking to get her hands on the very same goods as well. The original National Treasure series was released at a time when Nicolas Cage was starring in movies left and right. After the Walt Disney Pictures action-adventure premiered in 2004, a sequel was released in 2007 with news of a third film confirmed in 2020. It will be interesting to see how the Disney+ show and the film series are connected if at all. Given Disney’s penchant for expanding on the story of their film universes with TV shows, we wouldn’t be surprised if Alexis’ character has connections with Cage who plays historian, Ben Gates. In addition to a cast of fresh faces, the series’ original producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, is back alongside writers Cormac and Marianne Wibberley. If nothing else, Disney+’s National Treasure should make for a fun and enticing show that younger audiences will come to love. In other news, Nicolas Cage’s first western movie, The Old Way, finally has a release window, with the film expected to drop in theaters sometime in Q4 later this year. Meanwhile, Cage is also set to star as Dracula in Renfield, a more comedic take on the classic gothic horror novel.
